The 31-year-old, who plays Darryl ‘‘Brax’’ Braxton on the Prime soapie, has been nominated in the most popular television personality and most popular actor categories.

Peacocke was studying communications at the University of Newcastle when he elected to take a drama subject.

He earned a CONDA award in Newcastle theatre before pursuing his career in Sydney.

He will go up against ABC comedian Adam Hills, 2012 winner Hamish Blake, Blake’s sidekick Andy Lee, Offspring star Asher Keddie and The Project’s Carrie Bickmore for the TV Week Gold Logie.

Hills, who has made the shortlist every year since 2008, has also been nominated for Most Popular Presenter.

This year Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden is in the running for Most Popular New Talent for his role on ratings juggernaut The Voice.

Madden announced his nomination to his 750,000 Twitter followers who, if they voted en masse, would guarantee him a Logie.

‘‘Hey Australia Thankyou for the Birthday Wishes & the Logies Nomination. You’ve really made my 25th Birthday one i’ll never forget :),’’ Madden tweeted.

All will be revealed at the Logie Award ceremony at Melbourne’s Crown Casino on April 7.

Former Newcastle actor Stephen Peacocke has been nominated for a Logie.
